Introduction

The man, as I remember him

He was bald (occasionally self-deprecating about his hair loss during speeches), a mustached, kind-eyed, charming motivational speaker who’d say the whole enchilada on his PBS pledge shows when it was the right moment to say the phrase.

His manly voice was the kind of voice a patient and caring parent would have that I could tirelessly listen to, like a child quietly listening to an engrossing bedtime story. 😮

How do I have these noteworthy quotes

I have Wayne Dyer’s perpetual desk Everyday Wisdom Flip Calendar that Hay House published.

Bent and worn are the calendar’s pages from constant page flipping and daily use, and the March 20 with the October 13 side, March 21 with the October 12 side, and March 22 with the October 11 side pages have smaller than a fingerprint brown stains on the lower left corners if I view the March dates and on the lower right corners if I view the October dates. I’ll note the stains as coffee stains for now. 😄

This helpful calendar has been proudly and quietly displaying itself on our living room table for over ten years, though my mom purchased this calendar around the late part of the 1990s or early 2000s.

Sometimes, I pick the calendar up to flip the pages to today’s date.

Sometimes, when I need a question answered about a situation or issue or just looking for wisdom I need at the moment, I go to the calendar or happen to look at the calendar, and the answer I’m looking for is Dyer’s wisdom displaying itself on the date page even though that date has passed. 🦉

Dyer is alive, like an open and calming light spirit, and he’s sitting on the table in my living room and giving his advice when I need it on certain days and when I don’t need it. 👻😇

What exactly is abundance

Abundance is having plenty of something, having more than what you need, like having varied ready-to-eat or ready-to-cook food, resources for writing or drawing, creativity, happiness, and love. 🥓

Having enough is abundance. A small, cozy home (unless you’re a family of eight). 😮 An affordable, reliable Asian vehicle brand.

When you have 24 giant rolls of toilet paper, three full containers of disinfectant wipes, a refrigerator filled with your favorite wholesome food, lots of fresh drinking water, an updated working iPhone and laptop, or money saved to pay all your bills on time, abundance means you can meet your needs without worrying about scarcity of the previously listed items.

When I have enough, I feel grateful for what I have and can share my surplus food with my roommate. 🥙

Abundance is about more than just having a lot of things, food or money. It’s also about feeling fulfilled and content, having a loving family and good friends, being healthy, enjoying work, and safety and freedom to be yourself.

Abundance isn’t a goal; we create abundance with our thoughts, beliefs, and actions. 🧧

Abundance is something you and I create and experience every day.

☝🏼

What exactly is scarcity

Scarcity is having three giant rolls of toilet paper remaining, one container of disinfectant wipes remaining, or a refrigerator that’s preserving the freshness of one bag of bagels, half a block of sharp cheddar, two bananas, and two tomatoes, or having some money left and irregularly paying bills on time.

There’s less of what’s remaining, and there’s only some food for you to share with your roommate.

Scarcity is wanting the 2023 Mercedes-Benz G-Class instead of the 2023 Honda Pilot. 🙄

We also have only 24 hours of our day, so we choose how we spend our time. ⌚

Scarcity can be a way of thinking that sees a limited and competitive world. They see there is only some to go around and believe they have to compete to get what they need.

Thinking of scarcity that way might cause stress, anxiety, and depression. 🤒

In a birthday party where there might be one delicious photogenic German chocolate birthday cake to share with 20 revelers who think this cake is to die for, they won’t fight about who gets a share; they divide that cake equally so that everyone gets a slice. 🎂

Wisdom on abundance and scarcity

I’ve borrowed five noteworthy pieces of advice from the calendar that have given me reason to keep my feet on the ground on abundance and scarcity.

These quotes stand out because lately, I’ve been financially affected by the economic situation that has caused prices of essential items like food, clothing, shelter, vehicle fuel, electricity, gas, internet, and auto and rent insurance to go up to about 24 percent from 5 years ago.

That percentage might be too inflated, but that is what I feel that figure is.

How am I financially affected?

I’ve placed side by side previous low dollar totals with present-day higher dollar totals for essentials and bills, and when I dole out more elevated amounts of hard-earned dollars, my heart feels like I’m overpaying.

And I hope this feeling is temporary (as all things in the universe are except for death and taxes 😝), but for how long?

When will the Russian-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas wars end?

Will gasoline prices ever decrease to less than $5 in my city?

When will product supplies be adequate again?

I don’t know (I know I can google for the answers, but not now ), and I’m not spending my time worrying about the world’s situation because worrying won’t make conditions better or worse.

But these five pieces of wisdom are the truth and help me stay grounded.

Five abundance and scarcity quotes

I learned that practicing gratitude, especially when I see roadblocks ahead, like impatience, cynicism, or sometimes feeling disconnected, helps me keep my eyes on the good, significant, and small things in front of me.

I practice gratitude while brewing my morning coffee, washing my plate and utensils after my meal, and feeling the early evening shower’s tepid water on my skin after a day of hard work.

Sometimes, my mind can pull me into past and future stories, but I choose to be mindful as much as I can every moment, focus on my goals, take small steps often, and give my time when someone needs my help.

I’ve separated each quote below into subheadings: the secret of abundance, appreciate what you have now, discard scarcity mentality, having more is less, and gratitude.

The secret of abundance

The secret of abundance is to stop focusing on what you do not have,
and shift your consciousness to an appreciation
for all that you are and all that you do have.

Appreciate what you have now

If you don’t appreciate what you have now,
it won’t do any good to have more.

Discard scarcity mentality

The first step toward discarding a scarcity mentality
involves giving thanks for everything that you are
and everything that you have.

Having more is less

More is less.
For me, having more means having to insure it,
protect it,
polish it,
worry about it,
try to double it,
brag about it,
price it,
maybe sell it for a profit, and on and on.

Gratitude

The universe provides abundantly
when you are in a state of gratefulness.

Conclusion

Wayne Dyer’s above quotes help me stay real and grounded.

Through his wise words, he reminds me that I can choose to see the world as a place of abundance.

Let’s choose to see an abundant world that has more than enough to go around.
